The 1:48 J-16 mask set at the ADVANCED level (New Ware)

An extended mask set in 1:48 scale for a model of the two-seat Chinese J-16 aircraft. The masks are pre-cut to shape, so there is no measuring and no cutting of tape directly on the model. The set is prepared for one specific Hobby Boss kit. It is not a model and not a decal sheet, but an accessory used during painting.

The scope of the ADVANCED level

New Ware grades its mask sets by how much of the model they cover. ADVANCED sits between the basic and the most extensive variant. Against the BASIC level it offers a wider scope, so it suits you when you do not want to stop at the main glazing and plan to mask other areas of the model as well. The exact list of areas is given on the box, because it differs from one aircraft type to another.

Where the wider scope pays off

• On modern aircraft, where there are more small transparencies and lights around the cockpit.
• When painting the wheels, where the join between the hub and the tire is masked.
• Wherever you want every masked edge on the model to look the same.

Spraying technique

• Run a toothpick over the mask once it is in place so that the edge beds down everywhere.
• First spray the edge of the mask with the color underneath. Any bleed is then invisible.
• Only then apply the target color, again in thin coats.
• Peel the mask off at a shallow angle toward yourself, not straight up.
