An injection-molded plastic model of the American Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter in its reconnaissance rendition, in 1:48 scale from the Polish brand Arma Hobby. Besides the plastic parts, the package holds 3D printed accessories for the reconnaissance conversion (cameras and a template for cutting the opening in the underside of the fuselage) and color decals, which make it possible to build several particular aircraft of the US Army Air Forces. The exact number of parts and sprues is not stated here, as it is not verified.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American single-engine fighter with an unconventional layout: the engine was placed behind the pilot, in the middle of the fuselage, and drove the propeller through a long shaft. Thanks to that a powerful cannon firing through the propeller axis fitted into the nose. The aircraft proved itself above all at low and medium altitudes; the Soviet Air Force used it in large numbers too. The reconnaissance variants carried a camera in the lower part of the fuselage and flew tactical reconnaissance missions over New Guinea as well as over the Atlantic.
Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic, glue the cockpit glazing in only after the frames are varnished and use masking tape to mask the transparent areas. Clean the 3D printed camera parts first, bond them with super glue and wear respiratory protection while sanding. Lay down a primer before painting and spray the covering colors with an airbrush in thin coats; both the olive green and the silver (metallic) scheme come out on a smooth surface.
