A masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale for the Bf 109E versions. It is an accessory for painting: pre-cut self-adhesive shapes with which the area of the wheel bays is closed off before the outer surfaces are sprayed. The package contains neither the model of the aircraft nor paints.
On models the wheel bays are usually painted in a different shade from the surrounding lower surfaces of the wing, and it is precisely the boundary of the two colors that tends to be the weak point of the build. Finishing by hand with a brush after spraying leaves a visibly heavier layer and an uneven edge, because the work is done on a small area with a sharp break in it. The mask gets around this problem: the boundary is set by the cut in the mask, not by your hand, and both colors are applied with the airbrush at the same quality.
Choose the specific shades of the interior according to the references for your own model, not out of habit — the recommendations differ both by the maker of the kit and by the machine. Whatever you choose, lay a filler primer onto bare plastic first, otherwise the mask may hold unevenly on the smooth surface. The set can also be used the other way round: mask the bay first, spray the lower surfaces and lift the mask off only once it is dry, with the interior painted last.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not part of it.
