A set of pre-cut masks of kabuki tape for a model of the MiG-31 in the versions given in the name as B and BM, in 1:48 scale. The ADVANCED level is a higher degree of extent at New Ware than BASIC; for the same aircraft the maker also offers an EXPERT variant. The masks are die-cut to the outlines of the parts, so they are simply lifted off the carrier film, seated and pressed down; nothing is measured or cut.
The MiG-31 is a heavy twin-engined two-seat interceptor with a crew of a pilot and a weapon systems officer sitting one behind the other. For the modeler that shows mainly in size and complexity: a long fuselage, extensive glazing of both cockpits and a number of smaller windows. In 1:48 scale it is a large model on which any inaccuracy at the edge of a frame shows at first glance, and that is exactly why pre-cut masks pay off.
Wash the glazing first in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry; then lift the mask off with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and seat it dry. On a large canopy work one mask at a time and keep checking whether the edge seats exactly into the engraved frame. It is good to spray the inner sides of the frames with the cockpit shade before the top coat comes. Apply the paint in thin coats at right angles to the mask. Take the masks off while the paint is fresh; if the paint does form a ridge at the edge, score it carefully with the tip of a scalpel before you tear the tape away.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
