A plastic kit of the American MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The engine nacelles are movable, and the rotors and the wing can be built in the folded (shipboard) position.

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Bell Boeing MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. In the box there are eight sprues of gray plastic, a separate sprue of clear parts and a photo-etched fret. The key feature of the kit: the engine nacelles are movable, so the model can be built both in the helicopter position (nacelles raised) and in the airplane position (nacelles forward). The wing can also be rotated between the flight and the folded position, and two sets of rotor blades are enclosed — spread for flight and folded for stowage on board a ship. The decals cover an aircraft of the US Marine Corps.
The MV-22 Osprey is neither a helicopter nor a conventional airplane — it is both. It is a tiltrotor: both engine nacelles with their huge three-blade rotors swivel. Raised, they give the machine the ability to take off and land vertically like a helicopter; tilted forward, they turn it into a turboprop aircraft with considerably higher speed and range than an ordinary helicopter can reach. The Osprey thus combines two things that otherwise go together with difficulty: landing practically anywhere and moving quickly over a long distance. The machine serves above all with the US Marine Corps as a tactical transport for troops and cargo. For operation aboard ships the Osprey folds into an incredibly compact shape — the rotor blades fold and the whole wing turns along the fuselage.
It is a plastic kit, glued with liquid modeling cement for plastic (extra thin). Dry-fit the movable joints (the nacelles, the rotating wing) in advance and decide whether you really want to leave them free or to fix the model in one position — a solid joint tends to be more durable during handling. Finish and paint the interior and the cockpit before you close the fuselage. A primer is useful before painting, as it unifies the surface and reveals small scratches. The gray finishes of the US Marine Corps come out well sprayed with an airbrush; then emphasize the matte surface with gentle shading of the panel lines and discreet weathering around the exhausts, which are heavily loaded on the Osprey.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
