A 1:48 decal sheet devoted to the B-25C bomber, which flew with the Royal Air Force under the designation Mitchell II. The manufacturer's data names four aircraft including one trainer.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B-25C version was the first production form to leave the gates of the Inglewood plant in large numbers, and together with the later D variant it made up the backbone of deliveries to the Allies. The British introduced the machine as the Mitchell II and entrusted it to squadrons that had until then been flying night raids on twin engine Wellingtons. The switch to precision daylight bombing from low and medium altitude was a fundamental change of tactics for the crews.
Three of the machines offered, FL201, FL192 and FL686, belonged to No. 305 Squadron and carried the code letters SM. The fourth aircraft, FR395, stands apart: it served with training unit number 111, which prepared bomber crews in the Bahamas, far from the European theater. For all four the combination of an olive drab upper side and a neutral gray underside applies.
Cut the marking out close to the edge of the printing, immerse it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until the carrier film releases by itself. On a surface coated with gloss varnish the decal settles without silvering. Take the remaining water off with absorbent paper and let the area dry thoroughly; only then does the final matte coat follow.
Anyone building a series of machines from one squadron will appreciate that three of the four aircraft offered come from the same unit and differ only in the last letter of the code. Side by side on a shelf they then make a clear trio with a shared handwriting of finish and different serial numbers on the fuselage.
This is exclusively a set of decals. The plastic aircraft itself is obtained separately.
