A ready-made color instrument panel for a model of the twin-engine P-38G fighter in 1:48 scale. The product is neither a kit nor a photo-etched set to be painted. It is a single finished part that replaces the plastic panel from the box and improves the look of the cockpit at once. On the Lightning this accessory makes particular sense: the cockpit sits in a short nacelle between the engines and more of it can be seen than on a classic fighter with a long nose.
The P-38 Lightning was a twin-engine fighter aircraft with a pair of tail booms and a central nacelle for the pilot. The G version belonged to the wartime production series and was deployed in Europe as well as in the Pacific, among other things for escort and for long-range reconnaissance. The layout of the cockpit was governed by the fact that the pilot controlled two engines, so the instrument panel carried duplicated engine instruments together with controls placed outside the main panel as well.
The panel is not painted. Before gluing, dry-fit it into the nacelle, because the space is narrow and the tolerances small. The plastic part from the box usually only needs thinning down by sanding from behind. Apply the glue along the edges with a pin so that it does not get onto the print. Because the cockpit of the Lightning is clearly visible, it is worth unifying the color of the side walls and the seat at the same time, otherwise the new panel will reveal that the rest of the interior has stayed simple. A drop of clear gloss varnish in the dials gives the impression of glass.
The accessory is supplied finished and in color. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
