P-40B/C — detail set of the cockpit, wheels and radiators 1:48 from the Czech manufacturer AML. Resin parts that lift the interior and the landing gear of the early Curtiss P-40 above the level of a standard kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin detail set from the Czech manufacturer AML in 1:48 scale for the early Curtiss P-40B/C. This is not a stand-alone model: the set adds a finely cast cockpit, main wheels and the radiator area to the base kit, which is exactly where the viewer looks first on a finished model. Compared with the control surface set from the same manufacturer this is work on the inside of the model, as most of it happens before the fuselage halves are joined.
The Curtiss P-40 with its Allison V12 engine carried all its cooling in a bulky chin fairing beneath the nose, and it is the prominent intake and radiators that give the type its unmistakable silhouette. The early B and C versions (the British Tomahawk) fought in North Africa, in England and in China, and their cockpit differed from the later versions in a number of details that standard kits capture only in simplified form.
Build and paint the interior as a separate subassembly: wash the resin cockpit parts, spray them in the base interior color and bring out the details with a brush, a dark wash and a dry brush. Fit the wheels only once painting is finished, as resin wheels tend to have a fine tread pattern that stands out under a brownish gray dusting. The radiator area suits a light dark wash that supports the depth of the fins.
An accessory set; this is not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
