An add-on set of wing gun bays for a model of the P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American P-51D Mustang carried its armament in the wing, three heavy machine guns in each half, together with the feed chutes and the ammunition boxes. Access to them was through large panels on the upper surface of the wing, which were hinged open for maintenance. An open wing with the guns on show is one of the most rewarding ways to bring a model to life.
The set brings the interior of the P-51D gun bays, that is, a replacement for the closed wing from the kit, so that the model can be built with the panels open. The extent of the parts, where they go and the shape of the work needed are described in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed, which you should follow.
Open bays cannot be had without cutting into the kit parts, so expect cutting and sanding according to the instructions. Work in small steps and keep dry-fitting as you go, because putting removed material back is laborious. The parts of the set are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic will not join them; use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest back. Wash everything in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry. Paint the interiors of the bays before you fit them, because once they are glued a brush will hardly reach inside.
The set belongs in the hands of a more experienced modeler who is prepared to modify the wing and wants the armament open on the model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
