Polikarpov I-16 UTI-4 — interior set 1:48 (Poland, Finland) is a resin accessory from the Czech manufacturer AML that markedly lifts both cockpits of the two-seat trainer version of the legendary Soviet fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin set from the Czech manufacturer AML concentrates on the most visible place on a two-seat trainer aircraft: both open cockpits. It is not a stand-alone kit but an accessory that replaces the simplified interior parts of the base model with finely cast resin components. This version is devoted to aircraft associated with Poland and Finland.
The UTI-4 was the two-seat school version of the Polikarpov I-16 fighter, the first series-built low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear. The short, barrel-shaped fuselage made the I-16 sensitive on the controls, and precisely for that reason the two-seat trainer version played a key role in converting pilots. Captured examples appeared outside the Soviet Air Force during the Second World War, in Finnish service among others.
Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water before gluing so that any mold release agent disappears, and cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the interior, bring it out with a dark wash and go over it with a dry brush before the fuselage is closed up, because with the open cockpits of the UTI-4 it stays permanently on show and decides the overall impression of the model.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
