Present Russian Red Stars 1:48 is a set of self-adhesive masking stencils for spraying the red star in the present form used by the Russian Air Force. It is not a kit, but an accessory for painting a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Armycast for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. The set is intended for the present form of the Russian national insignia, that is, for the red star in the pattern used by the Russian Air Force today. The insignia is sprayed in paint straight onto the model through the mask — no carrier film is transferred, the edge is sharp and the surface stays in one plane with the surrounding paintwork.
On present-day machines the national insignia is often found on large, smooth and glossy areas, or on composite panels with a fine texture. A decal in such a place readily gives the edge of its carrier film away, especially under a matte varnish or in side light. A masked insignia does not have that flaw by its very nature, and it can be worked on further as well: it can be lightly sanded, toned down with a filter or partly covered with another coat of paint. Check the form and the placement of the star against photographs of the machine you are building — on contemporary equipment the solution differs from one example to another.
Degrease the surface and let the varnish cure fully. Position the mask, press the edge down thoroughly and spray straight down from above in thin coats. On a multicolor insignia work layer by layer from the lighter color to the darker one and let the paint set between the steps. Take the mask off with tweezers at a sharp angle while the paint has not fully cured, so that the edge is not torn away. Any adhesive residue can safely be wiped off with a cotton swab moistened with water.
The package holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
