A public stone well 1:48 is a cast diorama accessory from the Czech maker Hauler. It is not a model kit but a separate element around which a whole view can be built.

The accessory represents a public stone well in 1:48 scale - that is, an element of the kind that stood on a village green, in a farmyard or on a small square. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft but a diorama structure that is added to a finished scene. The well has the advantage of creating a reason by itself why figures are together, so that it easily becomes the natural center of gravity of a composition.
Do not put the well in the middle of the board - the composition comes alive when you move it off the axis and leave free space around it for figures, a vehicle or a piece of roadway. Sink the lower edge into the terrain and fill the transition to the stone paving or the soil with fine sand and putty. The surroundings of a well tended to be trodden down and damp, so it pays to suggest a darker, slightly glossy area where the water spilled, and drier dust around it instead.
Once the casting has been washed and the casting remains removed, apply a gray primer. What makes stone convincing is irregularity of color: a base of middle gray, then shift a few stones in shade toward warmer and cooler tones, and only then apply a dark wash so that the joints come out. Go over the edges by drybrushing in a lighter shade, but carefully - overdone stone looks like plaster. Suggest moss and algae with a very thinned green in the places the sun does not reach, that is, at the foot, in the joints and under the rim. Mute the metal parts, if the well has any, with a dark base and a hint of rust, not with pure silver. Finally unify the surface with a matte varnish and leave gloss only where there is to be water.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, terrain compounds and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
