Roadblocks, short, 1:48 (Plusmodel)

A resin set of diorama accessories in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. It holds concrete roadblocks in the shorter version. Blocks like these are set out in the field individually or in irregular groups, to narrow a passage, to create a slalom in front of a post or to protect the entrance to a facility. It is not a model of a vehicle; the set completes a scene that is already built.

Where the accessory comes into its own

Short blocks are more universal in a diorama than a long line, because they can be scattered irregularly and the scene reads as alive thanks to that. Put them in front of a barrier, at an entrance, at the edge of a roadway, or leave them lying overturned as the trace of an accident or of heavy equipment passing through. They combine well with the long version from the same range, with barbed wire and with sandbags.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and level the surfaces with a file. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The concrete will look convincing if every block gets a slightly different shade. Start from a light gray base, add beige and greenish filters and spot maps of damp. Suggest knocked-off corners with a scalpel and leave the exposed core lighter. Dust the underside with pigments to match the color of the terrain the scene will stand on. If you want to add graffiti or reflective strips, use them on only one or two blocks.
