A set of floats in 1:48 scale for a model of the Swedish single-engine Saab 17 aircraft in its float form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Saab 17 was a Swedish single-engine two-seat aircraft of the turn of the 1930s and 1940s, used as a light bomber and reconnaissance machine. Besides the land version there was also a form on floats, intended for work over coastal waters. Floats change the silhouette of an aircraft more fundamentally than any other modification: they lift the fuselage, shift the center of gravity and give a model a completely different stance.
This is a set of floats in 1:48 scale, that is parts to complete a model rather than a whole aircraft. The extent of the parts, the method of attachment and the recommended procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions. Before ordering, check that the floats match the version of the fuselage you are building and that you have references for the shape and length of the struts.
The most sensitive part of the work is seating them symmetrically. Both floats have to be parallel, at the same height and the same distance from the centerline of the fuselage; otherwise the model will visibly sit crooked in a display case. It works well to assemble the whole thing dry on a flat board and to check the height against a simple gauge. Cut surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the surface back, then wash and degrease the parts. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's instructions.
The set will please modelers who follow Swedish aviation and want the less usual float version in their collection. The build is not especially demanding on tools, but it rewards careful measuring. Paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
