The set of self-adhesive masks Soviet White (Yellow) Outlined Red Stars — late variant, 1:48 from Armycast makes it possible to spray outlined red stars straight into the finish of a model. It is an accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An Armycast masking set for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. It holds cut self-adhesive masks with which you spray a Soviet red star with a white or yellow edging in the late pattern. It is not a model and it is not a decal sheet — it is a tool for making the marking come about by the same technique as the rest of the paintwork.
The late pattern of the outlined star closes the development of Soviet aircraft markings of the end of the Second World War. Against the earlier variants, the ratio of the edging to the area of the star and the proportions of the points change. The insignia was carried on the fin, on the sides of the fuselage and on the wings, with the particular combination of placements differing between individual aircraft types.
The key is how heavily the paint goes on. Spray the thinnest coats you can and rather do more of them than pile the paint on at once — a heavy coat leaves a ridge on the edge of the insignia that you can feel once the mask is off, and in raking light it shows as unnatural relief. Hold the airbrush at right angles to the surface and lower the pressure a little. If a ridge does appear, you can ease it with very gentle polishing and a unifying overspray of satin or matte varnish across the whole insignia and its surroundings.
This is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
