Hauler photo-etched fenders for the Tiger I Ausf. E in 1:48 scale replace the thick plastic parts of the kit with thin metal that behaves like real sheet.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an aftermarket supplementary set in photo-etched metal, not a model of the tank. The set is cut to the shapes of a particular kit, the Tamiya one, and serves to replace the fenders, which in plastic are always incomparably thicker than the sheet of the subject. Hauler is a Czech maker of photo-etched and resin accessories that has specialized in this category for a long time.
On a real vehicle a fender is a thin folded sheet. In a kit in 1:48 scale the same part comes out several times thicker, because an injection mold cannot manage it thinner. On the edge of the part that difference shows most, and photo-etched metal removes it. The second advantage is malleability: a metal fender can be bent, dished or partly torn away, so a model can read as a machine after a longer deployment rather than as a freshly assembled replica.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface, not with nippers, which ripple the metal. Level the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, always along the etched groove and in one stroke, as bending back and forth repeatedly will crack the metal. Degrease the area with alcohol before gluing and do not touch it with your fingers. It is glued with cyanoacrylate in a small drop applied with a pin, or with solder. Metal holds paint worse than plastic, which is why a base coat of primer is an obligatory step, not a recommendation.
This is a supplementary set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
