A figure accessory in 1:48 scale on the subject of US Air Force ground personnel from the deployment in Southeast Asia under the designation Farm Gate.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation Farm Gate belongs to the American air deployment in Southeast Asia in the early sixties. Older propeller-driven machines were flown at the time, and a great deal of the work was done by the ground personnel right on the area, often in the makeshift conditions of a field airfield. It is exactly this view that the set carries over to a model.
An aircraft model on its own has neither scale nor action. Figures of mechanics beside it create both: the viewer immediately recognizes the size of the machine and understands what is happening in the scene. In 1:48 scale an adult figure comes out at about three and a half centimeters, so the accessory suits even a small display cabinet or a board the size of a palm.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part, sand the remainder and smooth the surface. Washing and degreasing follow, otherwise the paint will not hold on the small areas. Paint from the base coat through the working clothes to the details, and leave the faces and hands for last. Working clothing takes more dirt than flight equipment: a wash into the folds, fine oil stains and dusty boots will all benefit the scene. Choose the shades from period photographs.
The accessory is aimed at modelers who are building American machines of the early sixties and want a lively scene around them. The material is not polystyrene; the parts are joined with cyanoacrylate glue. Try the fit dry beforehand.
The aircraft model, paints, glue and a diorama base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
