A resin accessory set in 1:48 scale for the Sherman tank in the configuration of the US Marine Corps. It is not a kit — it is a collection of castings of kit, cargo and additional equipment that are fitted onto a finished or part-built model. For armored vehicles the 1:48 scale is smaller than the usual modeling 1:35, so the castings are small and handling them calls for tweezers and a steady hand. The number of parts is stated on the packaging of the set.
Tanks committed in the Pacific theater carried unusually large amounts of materiel on the hull and the turret — crates, tarpaulins, spare track links, jerrycans and improvised protective elements. A model built exactly to the instructions lacks that character and comes across as a freshly built machine. The set adds precisely the items that give the impression of a machine in service, and at the same time offers contrasts of color and material against the uniform finish of the hull.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw — on small parts in 1:48 scale there is a risk of snapping a detail off if you break them. Sand wet and do not breathe the sanding dust. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic has no effect. Lay down a thin coat of primer before painting; on small parts a heavy coat swallows the detail. Paint the cargo separately and fit it at the end. A final pull-together with a wash and a dry brush will give the whole thing depth, and pigment on the lower surfaces will settle it into its setting.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
