An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Supermarine Walrus Mk.I amphibian flying boat in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand Special Hobby, in a limited edition focused on postwar foreign service. It is a short-run biplane kit with a boat hull, struts and rigging between the wings. The decals cover postwar users. The exact package contents and the number of schemes are given in the instructions.
The Supermarine Walrus was a single-engine amphibian biplane with a boat-shaped hull and a pusher propeller. It served mainly as a shipboard reconnaissance and rescue aircraft of the Royal Navy — it was launched by catapult from ships and picked up downed airmen from the water. Production ended during the war, but surviving machines went abroad afterwards, among other places to Argentina and to the reformed French Navy. It is these postwar users that this edition is devoted to.
A short-run kit calls for care — clean up the parts and dry-fit them. Assemble and paint the interior of the boat hull before you close it, and mask the glazing. Use liquid cement on the plastic. On a biplane the precise fit of the interplane struts and the rigging that follows are the key — add the stretched lines only after painting. Apply a primer before painting and spray the silver and colorful postwar scheme with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
