An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet two-seat trainer Yakovlev Yak-38U (NATO reporting name Forger B) in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. It is the training version of the carrier-borne V/STOL machine with vertical take-off and landing, distinguished from the combat version by a lengthened nose with a second cockpit for the instructor. The Yak-38 was a Soviet carrier-borne aircraft with vertical take-off and landing, operated from the Kiev class aviation cruisers. It took off and landed vertically thanks to a combination of the vectoring nozzle of the main engine and a pair of lift engines placed behind the cockpit. The two-seat Yak-38U version was used for pilot training — the second station gave it a longer nose. Vertical take-off placed heavy demands on the crew and on fuel consumption, yet it was one of the few V/STOL aircraft of its day in series service alongside the British Harrier.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint and highlight the interior of both cockpits before you close the fuselage, and mask the clear glazing during spraying. Pay attention to the doors of the lift engines and to the position of the vectoring nozzle. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
