A set of turned metal barrels from Flyhawk in 1:700 scale. The barrels match the German naval 15 cm SK C/28 gun in the short version for single mounts. It is an accessory that replaces the plastic barrels of a kit - turned metal barrels are perfectly straight, have crisp detail and will not break when handled.

The real subject

The 15 cm SK C/28 gun made up the secondary artillery of the large surface ships of the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War. On the Scharnhorst class battleships it was installed both in twin turrets and in single mounts along the sides of the superstructure; it served above all against surface targets such as destroyers. It is these single mounts that this version of the barrels matches.

Building tips

Cut the original plastic barrels off at the base and carefully drill a hole of the matching diameter into what is left of the mount. Seat the metal barrel as a dry run, align its axis and only then secure it with a drop of super glue. Degrease the barrels and spray them with primer before painting, or the paint will not hold well on metal.
