A detailed injection-molded plastic kit from the Flyhawk brand in 1:700 scale. The model captures the British aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious in her 1940 state. The edition tends to be richly equipped — besides the plastic sprues it contains photo-etched brass parts, turned metal elements and color decals, thanks to which very fine detail can be reached even in this small scale.
HMS Illustrious was the lead ship of the British aircraft carrier class of the same name and became famous for her armored flight deck, which gave the crew and the aircraft above-standard protection. She entered service in 1940 and soon wrote herself into history, for example with the strike by carrier torpedo bombers against the Italian fleet at Taranto. Her design influenced the conception of the later armored aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy.
This is a fine model with small parts — work calmly, with a sharp knife and tweezers. Bend the photo-etched parts on a bending tool and glue them with superglue (cyanoacrylate); join the plastic with thin cement for plastic. We recommend a primer, an airbrush for the surfaces of the flight deck and the sides, and a fine wash or dry brush to bring the detail out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
