This is an aftermarket accessory, not a kit of the ship. The set holds deck parts cut from thin wooden veneer with a self-adhesive back and with the laying of the planks marked on it in 1:700 scale. This is the variant in the natural shade of wood; Artwox also offers a darker blue version for the same ship, so you can choose according to the look of the deck you want to render on a model. The kit the set is cut for is given in the name of the product.
The USS Pittsburgh was a heavy cruiser of the Baltimore class, that is a class of large American cruisers with main armament of 203 mm guns in three triple turrets and with a strong dual-purpose and anti-aircraft battery. She entered service in 1944. In June 1945 the ship lost the forward part of her hull in a typhoon and reached a repair base under her own power; that episode is among the best-known demonstrations of the toughness of the structure of this class.
Natural veneer looks very light once it is glued on and in 1:700 scale can read almost too clean. A very thin brown-gray filter or an oil wash helps, as it evens out the tone and brings out the gaps; it is applied in thin coats until you reach the shade you want. Wood is absorbent, so make the first coat really thinned. Once you have the shade, seal the deck with a matte varnish, or it will get dirty from fingers during further handling. Spray the sides and the superstructures before gluing the deck on.
