The Artwox Model 1:700 wooden deck for the American battleship USS South Dakota BB-57 is a self-adhesive veneer with the pattern of the planks printed on it, intended to be stuck onto the deck of the Trumpeter 05760 plastic kit.

A pre-cut sheet of natural veneer with a self-adhesive back, cut for the deck areas of a ship model in 1:700 scale and provided with the printed pattern of the laying of the planks. It replaces the molded plastic relief with real wood. This is an aftermarket accessory used while building a model, not a kit in its own right.
The USS South Dakota BB-57 was the lead ship of the class of the same name of American fast battleships, taken into service in 1942. Against the previous generation it was a more compact design with a shorter hull and more concentrated armor, with main armament of 406 mm guns in three turrets. During the war she served in the Pacific and was known for heavy anti-aircraft armament, which grew further over the course of the conflict.
Compact decks mean many curved transitions and little room for a mistake. Before laying, leave the model and the veneer at room temperature for a while: cold and damp material adheres worse and the self-adhesive layer needs several hours to bond fully. Apply the pressure through a soft backing, for example a folded cloth, with a flat tool rather than with a fingernail. On curved places work in short stretches and do not force the veneer into a curve; let it settle in several steps instead. Pierce an air bubble with a needle and smooth it over from the center outward.
This is an accessory to the Trumpeter 05760 plastic kit, not a model. The kit, glue, paints and photo-etched parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
