Artwox Model 1:700 US Navy Louisiana BB-71 Deck Masking Sheet is a self-adhesive masking sheet for the decks of the battleship Louisiana BB-71 in 1:700 scale. An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pre-cut self-adhesive sheet of masks for the deck areas of the battleship Louisiana BB-71 in 1:700 scale. It is not a kit or a veneer deck but an aid for painting: the masks bound the deck areas accurately and keep the rest of the model clean. The shapes follow the parts of one particular plastic kit, Very Fire VF700902, so check before buying that this is the one you are building.
The load-bearing element is adhesion. A mask holds reliably only on a surface that is clean, dry and free of dust, and it must not be so tacky that it tears the paint beneath it off on removal. A proven approach is to test the tack on a scrap piece of glass or an offcut of sprue: if the mask holds too well, stick it first to the back of your hand and take it off again, which removes part of the tack. On a dusty area, by contrast, not even a new mask will seat.
Work in a dry room with as little dust as possible; damp under the mask slows drying and dust creates channels through which paint creeps. Once it is stuck on, go over the edges with a fingernail or a soft tool and let the mask settle for a few minutes before you start spraying. Do not overload the edges with a heavy coat of paint; thin coats in two or three steps hold a sharper line than one opaque coat. Do not stick a mask on again once it has been removed.
The set is not a model on its own. The paints, glue and plastic kit are not included in the package.
