Trumpeter is a Chinese manufacturer known for an extensive range of modern warships. Even in this fairly small scale it is, given the size of the subject, a large model with a long flight deck, superstructure, elevators and deck equipment. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The USS Constellation was the second unit of the Kitty Hawk class — large aircraft carriers with conventional, that is non-nuclear, propulsion. The ship had an angled flight deck, steam catapults and arrestor wires and was built for operating jet carrier aircraft. It spent several decades in the service of the US Navy and was deployed, among other places, in Southeast Asia. The exceptionally large deck and the characteristic island superstructure on the starboard side are among the most striking features of the subject.
Glue the hull with a thin cement for plastic and let the joints cure completely before the next steps — on a long hull every gap that does not close up shows. It is practical to paint the flight deck separately and to fit it only once the hull has been sprayed. Lay the base down with a primer, then spray with an airbrush in thin coats. The deck is brought to life by gentle emphasis of the panels and discreet weathering in the places where work is done, but with ships less is more. The model takes the addition of photo-etched parts very well, especially railings, radar antennas and nets, and a stand or a water base suits it too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
