This is an accessory to a kit in 1:700 scale, not a model of the ship. According to the name the veneer is in the blue finish, that is in a dark shade that on American ships matches painted-over deck planks, while the structure of the laying stays legible. The back carries a self-adhesive layer. The target kit is given in the name of the product and need not be the same as the kit for the light wood variant, so compare them before ordering.
The USS New Orleans was the lead ship of the class of American heavy cruisers built while the interwar naval treaties were still in force, with nine 203 mm guns in three triple turrets and with a more compact hull than the later classes. In November 1942 the ship lost a considerable part of her bow at the Battle of Tassafaronga, yet she stayed afloat and was repaired. The form of 1942 matches precisely that period of service in the South Pacific.
A sheet of veneer is sensitive to handling even before it is glued on. Store it flat, never fold it and do not leave it in heat or damp; folded veneer cracks along the grain and the adhesive layer softens and picks up dirt at high temperatures. Before working, let the sheet come to room temperature, as the adhesive holds worse in cold material. Once the deck is in place, leave the model alone for a few hours so that the adhesive layer settles, and only then seal it with a thin coat of matte varnish.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
