An injection-molded plastic kit of an armored railway platform which formed part of the Soviet armored train bearing the name Kozma Minin. Note right at the start: it is a model of one car, not of a whole train and not of the locomotive. The set suits either as an addition to a longer train you are already building, or as an object on its own on a short length of track. The exact make-up of the package and the number of parts are given by the instructions and the packaging of the kit.
In the Second World War armored trains were made up of several types of car coupled around an armored locomotive. Besides artillery cars with traversing armament, anti-aircraft platforms and control cars running ahead of the train belonged to them. An armored platform is just such a specialized car: a low armored body on a railway chassis, fitted out to carry armament, ammunition or a crew. Their use was set by the rails, which made the trains powerful but limited in movement, used mainly to protect lines, junctions and movements. The train with the name Kozma Minin was among the named Soviet armored trains of that time.
With railway subjects the geometry is what decides: assemble the chassis and the frame on a flat surface and keep checking that the car stands free of twist and that all the wheels touch. If you plan to place it on track, check the gauge dry before gluing. Finish the interior equipment and the armament before you close the body. Lay a thin primer on before painting, which on large flat surfaces will reveal every unevenness. It is exactly the broad areas of armor that are best brought to life with a fine lightening of the centers and a darker shade at the edges. Build the weathering up in layers: a dark wash into the riveted joints and the corners, restrained traces of corrosion on the lower edges and pigments with dust and grease around the running gear and the buffers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
