Canopy and masks for the La-5 F and FN, 1:72

An accessory set with a replacement canopy for a model of the Soviet La-5 fighter in the F and FN versions, together with masks for painting it, in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but a replacement part. A replacement canopy is usually thinner and clearer than the injection-molded part from the kit, so you can see into the cockpit better through it, and it also helps where the original part has been scratched or flooded with glue.

Building and painting tips

Glue the canopy with a water-based glue meant for clear parts; cyanoacrylate fogs the glazing. Lay the masks on with dry hands and press the edge down with a blunt tool. Paint the frames with the interior shade first and only then with the exterior one, so that the transition looks right from inside. Take the masks off as soon as the paint has flashed off. If you are going to sand the part back, work gradually from a coarser to a finer abrasive and finish with a polish.
