An unassembled and unpainted injection-molded kit of the British cruiser tank in 1:72 scale. The Close Support version differed from the standard one in its main armament — instead of an anti-tank gun it carried a weapon intended above all for firing smoke and high-explosive rounds, whose task was to screen and support the advance of its own units. The model is part of a wider range in which the manufacturer has done other variants of the same tank. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and any photo-etched parts are stated on the packaging of the kit.
The Crusader was a British cruiser tank listed under the designation Cruiser Tank Mk.VI. It came from the concept of a fast vehicle intended for reconnaissance and for exploiting a breakthrough, which is what the sprung running gear with large wheels and the low silhouette answered to. It was committed above all in the North African setting, where both its advantages in speed and its weaknesses in armor protection and in the reliability of the powerplant in heavy dust and heat came out. The Mk.I variant was the earliest production version; the close support version made up a minority in the units and supplemented the tanks with standard anti-tank armament.
In 1:72 scale the preparation of the parts is the key — snip the sprue gates off with nippers and level the remains, otherwise visible lumps will appear on the small surfaces. Assemble and paint the running gear and the side covers before closing the hull. Lay the primer on in a thin coat so that the surface texture stays visible. Desert schemes look good with slight modulation of the shade on the horizontal surfaces, a dark wash in the recesses and a fine dust pigment on the running gear and the lower hull; keep the chipping on the edges restrained, as at a reduced scale it quickly overwhelms the overall impression.
