A sheet for the lightened P-40N-5 version in 1:72. Three schemes cover two American machines from the fighting over New Guinea and one aircraft serving in China.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fighter with a large radiator under the nose was never among the fastest nor did it reach great altitudes, but it was sturdy, cheap and could be repaired in the field. The N version came out of an effort to win back at least part of the performance: the designers lightened the airframe, reduced the fuel reserve and above all glazed the rear fuselage behind the cockpit, so that for the first time the pilot could see what was going on behind him. It is precisely by the low rear end and the large transparent area that the late examples are recognized at first glance.
The third scheme stands apart: it belongs to a mixed formation in which American crews flew together with Chinese ones and whose aircraft carried Chinese national insignia. From one package a modeler will therefore build both two machines from Pacific jungle bases and an example from quite a different theater, with a different roundel and a different background. That tends to be more of an exception with sheets of this type.
The large radiator under the nose and the intricate landing gear covers mean plenty of rounded areas where a film is reluctant to settle. It proves best to lay the marking on dry, then to let water with a trace of detergent under it and only at the end to press it down carefully with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. Anyone who hurries usually ends up with a wrinkle across the whole side. The model itself is not in the price.
