A sheet of waterslide decals from HAD models with the markings of the four-engine Ilyushin Il-18 turboprop airliner in the colors of the Hungarian airline Malév. The sheet is prepared in a retro treatment matching the 1960s, that is the period when the type entered service with the carrier. It serves as a replacement for or an addition to the decals from the box.
The Il-18 is an all-metal low-wing monoplane with four turboprop engines and retractable landing gear, designed for medium and longer routes. The combination of a pressurized cabin, fuel-efficient turboprops and sturdy landing gear made it a machine suited even to less well equipped airfields, which was essential for carriers in eastern Europe. Malév operated it for a number of years, and its livery of that time is among the recognizable European schemes of the period.
An airliner is above all about a clean surface. Sand the fuselage smooth, spray a foundation and go over it with gloss clear coat, otherwise silvering will appear under the edges. Lay the long lines along the fuselage down in one piece, over a thin film of water and lined up against the engraved lines rather than by eye. Press the surplus water out with a soft cloth from the center outwards. Go over the dried decals with gloss clear coat and treat the weathering sparingly, as scheduled airliners tended to be well kept.
This is a sheet of decals in its own right, not a kit. The model, paints, varnishes and softeners are not included in the package.
