This product is not a model of the aircraft, but a self-adhesive masking set for a model of the F-14A Tomcat in 1:72 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape — a fine Japanese paper tape with mild adhesion, which conforms well to rounded shapes, holds well on the edge of a frame and leaves no glue once taken off.
New Ware grades its masking sets into the BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT levels. BASIC is the smallest in extent of them and is intended for modelers whose concern is above all the quick and clean masking of the transparent parts, without buying a more extensive sheet. Go through the contents of the sheet before building.
First degrease the glazing and let it dry perfectly — grease and dust are the most common cause of a mask not seating and the paint running under. Carry the individual pieces with tweezers, lay them on dry, check the position and only then press them down with a soft stick from the center toward the edges. Spray the paint in several very thin coats; the first pass is meant to seal the edge of the mask rather than to cover the base. Take the mask off while the paint has set but has not yet fully cured, and pull it away at a sharp angle back over itself, not straight upward.
The set holds only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
