A sheet of waterslide decals for a plastic model of the Heinkel He 219 in 1:72 scale. What is special about this sheet is that it gives two different markings for one and the same machine: the factory code DV+VL and the tactical code G9+DC carried with the unit NJG 1. A modeler can thus choose which period of the aircraft's life to build. It is not a kit; the contents of the package are a printed carrier film. The number of schemes, the dimensions and the target kit are not stated here.
The machine belongs to the pre-production A-0 series of the Heinkel He 219 night fighter, a twin-engine aircraft with nose landing gear and a tandem cockpit. After leaving the factory German aircraft carried a four-letter factory code, which was replaced on handover to a unit by a tactical designation: the first pair of characters belonged to the formation, the character after the cross to the particular machine and the last letter to the squadron within it. The transition between the two states is interesting for a modeler precisely because the same airframe looks different each time without the camouflage changing.
Silvering is the matte haze under a carrier film that arises from trapped air. You will recognize it by the motif looking as though it were stuck onto a film. The prevention is a glossy surface, and a remedy is still possible: pierce the bubble with the sharpest needle you have, spread a drop of softener over the surface and let the film settle. Do not press it with a cotton swab, as that only moves the air elsewhere. A joint that has not come off well is immediately visible with a pair of codes, because these are large continuous areas of lettering.
The decals are an accessory to a model. The kit, paints, varnish and softener are not included in the package.
