Pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. These are not a kit or spare parts but an aid for painting: the masks are stuck onto the clear parts, cover the transparent areas and expose only the frames of the canopy and the windscreen. You then spray the framing together with the airframe and the edge stays straight. The double-sided version allows for masking the glazing from the outside and from the inside, so you paint the frame from inside the cockpit as well. The set is cut to the shape of the parts of a particular kit in this scale, so with another kit test the fit dry first. The cut is based on the Great Wall Hobby kit; it need not fit a model from another manufacturer.
The Su-35S is a modernized single-seat heavy fighter derived from the Su-27 family. Compared with the carrier-based and earlier variants it has no canard foreplanes, it uses a strengthened airframe structure, thrust-vectoring engines and modernized avionics with an electronically scanned radar array. The continuous aerodynamic line of the fuselage and wing remained, along with two separate engine nacelles and a pair of vertical tail surfaces. The cockpit is covered by a long hinged canopy with thin frames that are difficult to mask by hand.
Wash the clear parts first in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry thoroughly. Pop the masks out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel and carry them with tweezers. Stick the inner masks on before the canopy is fitted. Lay the mask in the middle of the area, press toward the edges and smooth the edge down with a toothpick. On the long curved canopy it pays to trim the outline at the ends with a fresh blade right on the part. Spray the interior shade first, then the primer and the top covering shades, always in thin coats at right angles to the surface. Lift the mask once the paint has flashed off, pulling it back at an angle over itself.
The masks are an aid for painting, not a kit or spare parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
