A kit of the modern American light tactical armored vehicle in 1:72 scale. Planet Models is a brand devoted to resin kits, which differ from ordinary injection-molded plastic in the whole working procedure: the parts are separated from casting blocks, they are bonded with super glue and they have to be degreased thoroughly before painting. The set is therefore better suited to modelers who have already built something in resin.
The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is a family of American light tactical vehicles with all-wheel drive which since the second half of the 2010s has been replacing part of the older cross-country vehicles in the US Army and the Marine Corps. The M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier version is the four-seat variant with room for a weapon station on the roof. Compared with the earlier generation it has stronger armor protection of the hull, a tougher suspension with long travel and a higher payload. Typical features are the angular armored cab, the great ground clearance and the massive wheels with aggressive off-road tread.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the residue of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp knife, not with side cutters, which crush resin. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Resin does not hold with ordinary plastic cement, which works by melting the surface, so use super glue, ideally with an accelerator. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint will rub off the smooth surface easily. In 1:72 scale the fine parts come into their own only under thin coats, so thin the paint more and spray with an airbrush at lower pressure. Picking out the panel lines with a wash and light dry-brushing of the edges will give the vehicle more depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
