A short-run injection-molded kit of the supersonic McDonnell RF-101C Voodoo reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Valom. The boxing is devoted to the machines of Operation Sun Run. Besides the plastic parts it also holds cast resin parts, photo-etched sheet and decals, so this is a model with a higher level of detail than an ordinary injection-molded kit in this scale usually has.
The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo was a twin-engine supersonic aircraft with a characteristically high-mounted tailplane. The RF-101C version was the unarmed tactical reconnaissance variant: in place of armament it carried a set of photographic cameras in the forward fuselage for imaging from low and higher altitudes alike. The combination of high speed and range made it one of the most capable reconnaissance machines of its day. Operation Sun Run in 1957 was a series of transcontinental speed flights in which RF-101C machines broke several speed records on a route across the United States.
Wash the resin parts first in warm soapy water to remove the remains of the mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Bend the photo-etched parts over a sharp edge. We recommend finishing and weighting the cockpit and the forward fuselage before the halves are glued together, because with nosewheel aircraft it easily happens that the model sits down on its tail. The Voodoo is most often finished in a gloss metal scheme, which is a demanding discipline: the base has to be perfectly smoothed and dust free, metallic shades are laid on in thin coats and the differing shades of the panels are masked only once they have dried.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
