Four markings for the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun from a civil and export setting, from a race over the Egyptian oases to a Manchurian airline. Scale 1:72.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Taifun was born in the middle of the 1930s as an all-metal low-wing monoplane for sport and touring flying. Retractable landing gear, automatic slats on the leading edge of the wing and an air-cooled Argus eight-cylinder made it a machine faster and longer-ranged than most of its contemporary competition. The manufacturer therefore liked to send it to long-distance competitions and to export markets, where it advertised the whole marque.
What joins the variants worked up is that none of them belongs to ordinary service equipment. The set opens with an aircraft with the registration D-IBMY, as it looked in February 1937 during an international race led over the Egyptian oases. The second variant captures a machine of the headquarters of the Polish aviation league of the years 1947 and 1948, that is from the time when examples inherited after the war were being flown out in Poland. The third belongs to an aircraft tested by a Japanese Army aviation research center and the fourth to the machine J-BACC in the colors of the Manchurian airline of the years 1936 and 1937.
The sport and transport career of the type is documented by photographs from places German equipment of the 1930s did not commonly reach. A model in the colors of an operator from the Far East or in the markings of a postwar Polish organization works in a display case differently from another gray aircraft with military codes.
The long registration markings across the whole wing are the main laborious part of this type of subject. It pays to apply them letter by letter, to check the spacing against a drawing and only once they are dry to go over the joint with a soft brush and a softener. On the upper side of the wing they run across the ripple of the slats, so prepare plenty of water and do not hurry while the motif still floats freely.
