This injection-molded plastic kit from the Czech manufacturer AZ model represents the Mustang Mk.III fighter in 1:72 scale. Mk.III was the British designation for the American P-51B/C in RAF colors. This form has a dorsal fin fitted to the fuselage afterwards, which improved directional stability once the Malcolm Hood sliding canopy had been introduced. A decal sheet with several marking options is included.
The North American Mustang was among the most successful fighters of the Second World War. The P-51B/C versions were marked by a framed cockpit canopy and by a silhouette different from that of the later P-51D. In the RAF they served as the Mustang Mk.III with a number of squadrons, Polish units among them. The combination of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (built under license by Packard) and an aerodynamic airframe gave the aircraft great range as well as performance at high altitude.
Glue the plastic parts with thin cement for plastic; a primer and spraying with an airbrush are recommended. The British schemes (Day Fighter Scheme) call for exact shades on the upper and the lower surfaces. The smaller scale rewards careful sanding of the seams and a fine emphasis of the panel lines. It is worth masking the framed cockpit canopy.
The model comes unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included unless stated otherwise.
