Russian naval deck personnel 1:72, arrangement number 2 from Offset Scale Models is a set of figures following on from the first arrangement of the same line.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a set of figures, not a kit of equipment. It is the second package of the line of deck personnel in 1:72 scale — the maker also makes arrangement number 1 and a combined set, so the cast of a scene can be filled out gradually. The number of figures, their poses and the material are stated on the box, and the make-up of the arrangement is not stated here. The figures are meant for deck and airfield dioramas, where they give equipment a human scale and the scene action.
The crews on a deck and on an airfield surface work in firmly given roles: marshalling, tying machines down and releasing them, checks before takeoff, operating handling equipment. It is from this that the typical poses of the figures come — a standing figure with an outstretched arm, a crouching figure at the landing gear, a figure operating a device. On a diorama it pays to place the figures so that their gaze and gestures are directed toward the model of the equipment.
Cut the parts carefully from the casting blocks or the supports with a sharp cutter and sand the trace of the cut. Before painting, wash the figures in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. Apply a thin base coat; a heavy coat would clog the fine folds of the clothing. Build the skin in thin coats and leave a darker tone in the recesses. Even the clothing out with a wash and bring the edges out with a dry brush. Vests or helmets told apart by color are a welcome accent in such a scene, but check the exact color identification against period photographs. At the end a matte clear coat, as shiny figures come across like a toy.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
