The Colibri Decals 1:72 SU-85M and SU-100, Part I decal set brings markings of the Soviet tank destroyers built on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
The first part of a series of decals in 1:72 scale for a pair of closely related self-propelled tank destroyers. It is an accessory for a finished or part-built model, not a kit. Because both vehicles share practically the same hull and superstructure, the sheet can be used according to which of the types you happen to be building. The exact extent of the markings is given by the maker on the box.
The SU-85M and the SU-100 belong to the family of self-propelled guns derived from the chassis of the T-34 medium tank. The weapon sits in a fixed, steeply sloped superstructure with no turret, which gives the vehicle a low silhouette and good frontal cover at the price of limited traverse to the sides. The SU-100 carries a heavier 100 mm barrel and is recognized by the large cylindrical bulge for the commander's cupola on the right side of the superstructure. The SU-85M is a transitional form that already uses a hull matching the later type but still the older 85 mm barrel. That is precisely why the two types are so easily confused.
The superstructure has large flat areas on which every inaccurately laid decal stands out. It helps to mark the axis and the height of the markings beforehand with a pencil or masking tape. A gloss base is practically a necessity on these areas. Leave the decal in the water only briefly, transfer it to the model together with its backing paper and only then slide the paper out from under the film; on larger motifs that avoids rippling. Once it has dried, use a decal softener at the edges of the armor plates and finally seal everything with matte varnish.
This is an accessory, namely decals. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
