Syria – flags 1:72 is a printed paper accessory for a diorama. The flag motifs are cut out of the sheet and glued into a scene; it is not a kit and not a waterslide decal.

A printed paper sheet for dioramas in 1:72 scale with flag motifs. It serves as a period depiction that gives a scene from a present-day conflict a believable setting. It is an accessory for a diorama – the motifs are cut out and glued on as a paper prop – not a kit and not a decal.
The smaller the scale, the greater the trouble the thickness of the material causes. A flag a few millimeters long made of ordinary paper looks like a strip of tin, so it pays to thin the paper before working it: dampen it from the back and carefully peel part of the layer away along the fibers, or use the finest printing possible and only tone the edge. The motif is then folded over thin wire or a stretched thread, glued with matte PVA glue and, while damp, formed into waves. Once dry the shape holds by itself and the prop looks light.
In 1:72 flags most often appear on a pole by a building, on the antenna of a vehicle or on a rod at a checkpoint. Place them where the eye is meant to travel – in a small scene they are one of the few vertical elements. Choose a very fine patina: a hint of thinned gray wash, a little dust pigment at the foot of the pole, nothing more. A heavy patina merely dirties a small motif. Spray everything with matte clear coat at the end, so that the sheen of the printing does not stand out above the surrounding surfaces and the paper withstands handling.
A printed paper accessory for a diorama intended for modeling use. Glue, paints and clear coat are not included in the package.
