This kit of injection-molded plastic captures the British Hawker Tempest Mk.V fighter aircraft. Going by its name, this release is aimed at the machines of wing commanders, that is, at aircraft with the personal markings of commanding pilots. The manufacturer is the Czech company Kovozavody Prostejov. The model is intended to be glued together and painted.
The Tempest Mk.V was a single-seat fighter aircraft that came about by reworking its predecessor above all in the area of the wing: it received a thinner profile with better behavior at high speeds, which showed in its speed at low altitude. It was powered by the powerful Napier Sabre piston engine in the H layout (24 cylinders in two horizontal banks one above the other) with a characteristic annular radiator under the nose, and its armament consisted of 20mm cannon in the wing. It was precisely the combination of high speed near the ground and a stable gun platform that determined its main use in the second half of the war. The aircraft of wing commanders usually differed from ordinary machines in carrying personal markings instead of the standard squadron codes, which makes them a rewarding subject for modelers.
Finish and paint the cockpit before joining the fuselage halves; in 1:72 scale that is the only moment when you can get at it. Dry-fit the parts, fill and sand the seams so that the panel lines are not lost. Mask the glazing and spray it first with the interior shade. Apply the basic camouflage with an airbrush and handle the boundaries between the colors by freehand spraying or over masking putty held a little away from the surface. Spray the invasion stripes, if the scheme includes them, through a mask once the basic camouflage has dried. Apply the decals onto a gloss coat, bring out the panel lines with a thin wash and even the surface out with a semi-flat varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
