A resin kit of a military airport tug on the Unimog U406 chassis with a double cab, complemented by a towbar for aircraft. The 1:72 scale matches the most widespread aircraft modeling scale, so the vehicle can be placed beside models of aircraft in an airfield scene. The abbreviation DoKa in the name means double cab, that is the form with two rows of seats and a shortened cargo bed. Resin castings offer finer detail than injection-molded plastic but call for a more experienced builder. The Unimog U406 is a light all-wheel-drive off-road truck with portal axles and high ground clearance. It was built from the mid-1960s and its civilian and military versions were used for a very long time. The combination of low weight, good traction and a short wheelbase made it a suitable machine for work at airfields, where it serves to move aircraft about the apron. The towbar is connected between the tug and the nose landing gear of an aircraft and allows the vehicle to be steered even while reversing with an aircraft. The double cab form carries the apron crew as well as the driver.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw; do not snap them. Sand resin wet and with airway protection. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. The towbar is a thin part that breaks easily, so glue it on at the end and consider reinforcing it with wire. Apply an undercoat before painting, and after the main color bring out the recesses with a wash and add dust effects on the wheels and the underside of the vehicle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
