This plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi presents the main battle tank Type 74 of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It is a special release with the subtitle Batra; the basis of the package is the proven model of the tank in the small 1:76 scale, which allows a quick build and easy display.
The Type 74 tank came about at the Mitsubishi company and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force took it into service in the middle of the 1970s as the successor to the older Type 61. The armament consisted of the proven 105 mm gun, and a technical point of interest was the hydropneumatic suspension: the tank could tilt its hull forward, backward and to the sides, and so adapt to firing in the broken mountain terrain of the Japanese islands. It stayed in service for decades and became one of the symbols of Japanese postwar armored hardware.
Separate the small parts with a sharp knife and clean them up with a fine file; a thin cement for plastic will speed the assembly up. The typical finish is the Japanese two-tone camouflage of green and brown; in this scale it looks good even with a brush, while an airbrush will give soft transitions. A dark wash and light dusting of the chassis with pigments will round the work off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
