1:80 Yomeimon is an extensive plastic kit of the richly decorated Yomeimon gate from the shrine at Nikko, from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit belongs to the range of Japanese historic buildings from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi and represents one of the most complex subjects ever worked in plastic. It is an architectural model, not machinery. The 1:80 scale suits a larger structure, and the particular number of parts and the dimensions of the finished model are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Yomeimon is the main gate of the shrine at Nikko and is among the most ornate structures in Japan. Its surfaces are covered in layers of carved decoration: animal and plant motifs, figural scenes, gilded elements and bright colors that stand out against the dark structural beams. Legend has it that visitors linger there until dusk without noticing, which earned it a nickname referring to sunset. The gate was built in the 17th century as part of a precinct that joins the Shinto and Buddhist traditions, and it is one of the most visited monuments in Japan.
This model is above all about painting. It pays to work in subassemblies and not to glue everything together until the decorative parts are finished, because once assembled they are out of reach. The basis is a careful primer, over it a deep red and black; the gilded and white carvings are applied with a fine brush or with masking. A dry brush in a lighter tone will bring out the modeling of the carvings, while a dark wash will deepen the shadows between them. The roofing will take gentle shading so that it does not look flat. Expect the build to take more time than an ordinary model; this is work for the patient.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
