This set from Kits-World is intended for the Martin-Baker ejection seats of an F-4 Phantom II model in 1:72 scale. It holds full-color decals with a raised relief: seat belts, straps, handles and padding. It is neither a kit nor a resin seat; the decals are applied to the seat from the kit. Take care when choosing: in the same scale Kits-World also makes a separate set expressly intended for British Phantoms. The manufacturer makes several Phantom subjects, so always go by the exact designation of the set, not merely by the name of the aircraft.
The F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft that served in both the fighter and the strike role with a number of countries. Its cockpit is strongly divided up and with the canopies open both stations are easy to see, so the seats are impossible to miss on a finished model. The harness straps form a light contrast against the dark padding.
Relief decals react to a softener differently from thin flat ones. A heavy layer of chemicals, or running a brush over the softened film, deforms the raised parts and the belts then look rippled. The right procedure: place the decal, squeeze out the water and air with a swab, and only then put a drop of softener along the edges, not into the middle of the relief. Then leave it alone; the film will draw itself down to the surface. If one dose is not enough, repeat it only after it has dried completely.
This is a decal set, not a kit and not a finished model. Paints, varnishes, decal softener and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
