A universal masking sheet from the SX-Art brand with precisely cut hexagons of a 3 mm side. It is not a kit, nor a mask cut for one particular model, but a stock of geometric shapes that you lay out on the model as you see fit. Of the sizes offered, the 3 mm one is the middle and the most universal.
The hexagon is the basis of hexagonal so-called digital camouflage, of honeycomb patterns and of imitation netting. It can be used positively, where you stick the cut shape onto a surface and spray over it with a second color, and negatively, where you use the rest of the sheet with the opening and spray the hexagon itself. Putting the shapes close together gives a continuous honeycomb grid, while spreading them freely over a surface gives camouflage that breaks up toward the edges into individual fields. The same shapes also serve for sports graphics, for accenting panels or for decorating a base and a diorama.
A 3 mm side corresponds in reality to roughly 10.5 cm in 1:35 scale, approximately 14 cm in 1:48 and about 21 cm in 1:72. On vehicles in 1:35 it therefore gives an ordinary, clearly legible camouflage field, on aircraft in 1:48 already a pronounced item, and in 1:72 a large block that suits the broad surfaces of wings rather than small details. In large scales such as 1:16 or 1:24 it serves as a fine pattern.
Lay the masks on only once the base coat is perfectly dry, ideally after a gap of several days. Press the edges down with a toothpick or a blunt stick, so that paint does not run underneath. Spray thinly and in two passes; a heavy layer makes a step at the edge that is hard to get rid of. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry, and do it at an angle to the side, not straight up.
Paints, glue and a model are not included in the package.
