A model of a work of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in 1:1000 scale from the Czech maker ROP o.s. A small scale is a sensible choice for fortification structures: it allows the whole work to be shown, including its setting in the ground and the rear wall, on an area that fits on a shelf, and at the same time it makes it possible to build a clear collection of one section of the fortified line from several works. The model is supplied unpainted and is meant to be finished with modeling materials.
The infantry blockhouses of the MO-S series belonged to the section of heavy fortifications built in the second half of the 1930s in northern Moravia and the Ostrava region. They were reinforced concrete works with embrasures for flanking fire into the neighboring works, with a tough rear wall, an observation cupola and interior facilities for the garrison. Besides a number, the works also carried a code name; on this blockhouse it is the name Odra, referring to the river at the place where it was built. Most of the works survive to this day and some of them are open to the public.
In 1:1000 scale the result is decided by the painting, not by the number of parts. Wash and degrease the model before painting and apply a thin coat of primer, so that the edges of the embrasures and the engraving are not clogged. Mix the concrete from several close gray shades and keep it strictly matte, as a uniform gray kills even a well cast model. Apply water staining and traces of aging heavily thinned, because at this scale every contrast is magnified. Deal with greenery and the ground using fine static grass or sawdust colored in several shades, not with a coarse scatter. We recommend setting the model on a dark base with a label, which brings out the silhouette of the work.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, unless stated otherwise. Glue, paints, a base and material for the ground are not included in the package.
