A resin set of road wheels for a model of the American M551 Sheridan light tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle — they are replacement castings that swap the wheels from the plastic kit for parts with more sharply drawn discs, holes and rim tires. A cast mold keeps the detail even on faces where an injection mold needs draft angles and parting lines, so after the change the running gear looks cleaner and more deeply articulated.
The Sheridan is an American light amphibious and airborne tank with an aluminum hull and a large caliber weapon system, in use from the 1960s. Its running gear has an open layout and the wheels dominate the view from the side — which is why changing the wheels ranks among the moves with the best ratio of effort to visible result. The set is useful even when you build the rest of the model straight from the box.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat board — otherwise the wheels will sit crooked and the track cannot be fitted in one plane. Sand wet and with your airways protected, and glue with super glue. Try the fit dry together with the track before you fix anything. When painting, do not mix the rubber tire with the metal of the disc: keep the tire in a dark gray with a cast of brown and the disc in the shade of the vehicle. Bring out the hollows with a wash, the bearing faces and edges with rubbed graphite or a dark metallic pigment, and dust the lower areas to match the ground — on running gear it is exactly the dust and mud that decide the credibility of the whole model.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and neither the model of the vehicle nor the tracks are part of the package. Glue, paints and other accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
